Deborah Underwood poses a question for all porcupine graduates and lovers of porcupines: What’s a girl to do when she wants a balloon instead of a bookmark for graduation? Isabel is no whiny porcupine. She takes charge and after a few solution attempts with some silly results, she comes up with a sweet solution. Isabel is great for empowering students to solve problems, and Deborah has crafted a delightful story with all the right elements in place: strong main character, problem, attempts to solve the problem (tension), a solution, and even a second ending, which Ms. Quill liked. This picture book is great for teaching problem solving or the story elements, as well as being a delightful read.
